Saffronart is considered today to be one of the most comprehensive and definitive sources of modern and contemporary Indian art. Combining a series of critically acclaimed international exhibitions and auctions, together with an unparalleled online presence, Saffronart has made reach to Indian contemporary art simple and instantaneous.

Saffronart’s galleries in Mumbai and New York, supported by an informative and interactive website provide individuals corporates and institutions with access to a substantial range of art, information, and advice. Further, Saffronart, through its varied platforms, offers artists greater opportunities to engage an Indian and global audience.

Saffronart Galleries in Mumbai & New York
In early 2003 Saffronart opened the doors to its Gallery in Mumbai with a definitive collection of works by Francis Newton Souza and has followed this with several exhibitions and auction previews, establishing Saffronart as a leading gallery for modern and contemporary art in India. In November 2004 Saffronart opened an office and gallery in New York with a preview of paintings from the Winter 2004 online auction. The eclectic viewing area and lounge located in the Flatiron district of Manhattan marks Saffronart's presence in one of the major international art centers. Please check the website for details on gallery timings in both locations.

Saffronart Events: Highlights
In January 2005, Saffronart features a collection of works on paper and sculpture by Laxma Goud in the Saffronart Gallery in New York. In March of the previous year, Saffronart presented 19 contemporary artists together with the Guild art gallery. This exhibit, titled Generation I, was received very well by critics as well as collectors.

Saffronart's flagship exhibitions held in the US in 2001 & 2002 were instrumental in the effort to globalize awareness of modern Indian art. In September 2002, Saffronart featured a collection of seminal works by 12 leading Indian modernists, designed to provide an insight into “Aspects of modern Indian Painting”. This followed on the heels of a traveling exhibit of recent works by Ram Kumar which showed during the summer of 2002 in Mumbai, Delhi, San Francisco and New York. These shows were preceeded in 2001 with a show in New York that was hailed as the largest exhibition of modern Indian paintings to have ever been held. These shows were conducted together with Pundole Art Gallery, a partner gallery of Saffronart. Saffronart has also held large-scale exhibitions previously in Hong Kong, Los Angeles and New York.

The largest Saffronart exhibition of Works on Paper featuring over 150 artists was held online in February last year. In addition, Saffronart has conducted a series of highly successful online auctions, accompanied with physical catalogues and preview events allowing bidders globally, to participate simultaneously in exciting, and even record breaking sales. The last Saffronart auction held in Nov Dec 2004 closed at a sale value of Rs. 13 crore ($2.9 Million). The auction also set record prices in a public sale for several artists, both modern and contemporary.

Saffronart.com
The website extends the company's traveling exhibits and art activities beyond their physical locations. It provides convenient access to an extensive range of art for sale, along with detailed information on artists and art-related events and exhibitions. The on-line catalogue has several thousand works of fine art by approximately 1000 established and emerging artists. They are available for sale and delivery virtually anywhere in the world, accompanied by a Saffronart authenticity certificate.

Promoting Indian Art & Culture
As part of its ongoing endeavor to provide the most accurate and timely information on Indian artists, events and movements, Saffronart is also closely involved with, and supports art and cultural communities and contributes to art related publications and books. This includes sponsorship and participation with: the National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai, the Sir J.J. School of Art, which has produced some of the finest Indian artists of the 20th century, local art festivals such as the Kala Ghoda art festival, several individual artists as well as group exhibitions and seminars, and visual and performing arts events.

The Saffronart team works closely with artists both in India and internationally. For example, in 2001, Saffronart sponsored a month-long artist work-live program in Southern California, which focused on the participation and interaction of 2 artists during that time: the founder of the Progressive Artists Group, the late F.N. Souza and a leading contemporary artist, Baiju Parthan.
